PHYSICAL EDUCATION – Active or Skills (2 semesters)

Both options will emphasize health-related fitness and developing the skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of activity. Non-competitive PE will consist of walking, some individual sports, dual sports, and some station/aerobic exercises. In competitive PE Movement forms may include the following: outdoor pursuits, recreational games, individual sports, dual sports, and team sports, that are competition based. Students will receive a daily score based on their participation during class for their grade.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION – STRENGTH TRAINING (2 semesters)

This course will consist of 4 core lifts that will target the major muscle groups of the body (bench press, hang clean, deadlift, and squat) and several different auxiliary lifts that work smaller muscles of the body and supplement the core lifts. These lifts require maintaining balance and a high level of coordination in the major muscle groups and will help develop students’ athletic abilities. Students will receive a daily score based on their participation during class for their grade.

Course Description: This course the student will be required to take notes, work in groups on projects, listen to guest speakers, work individually on a health plan at the end of the semester. Health class covers a variety of different topics including: Health Triangle, Stress & Stress Management, Drugs & Alcohol, Nutrition/Physical Activity, Mental Health, Social Health, Body Systems, Reproductive System, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), Pregnancy, Contraception, and a brief overview of First Aid and CPR. Students are graded based on homework and projects they turn in as well as Unit tests after each unit we discuss in class.
