“Christmas, Christmas, Christmas.... we all know what that special holiday in the month of December is all about, don't we? It’s about celebrating the birth of Christ Jesus, being with our families, and a time where people receive and give gifts to one another. Do you know what the true meaning of Christmas is? Is it the pure white snow that falls to the ground from the cloudy sky? The cards that we receive in the mail? The time spent in the kitchen making gingerbread cookies and houses? Is it the stockings hanging over the fireplace, the beautiful trees outside our windows, or the lights decorating the entire house in a myriad of colors? The answer? Christmas is a time to celebrate joy because Jesus saved us from our sins.

As we all know, the 25th of December is the day that we celebrate the birth of Christ – the Son who would bring great joy into the entire world. The prophets of the Old Testament had spoken of his coming for hundreds of years, so all who knew about the birth of this baby knew that he was no ordinary child.

But why? Why did he come? Why did our Father send His one and only Son to be born into something so sinful, cruel, and wicked as this world? One of the most famous verses from the Bible gives us an answer. In John 3:16 it says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This verse tells us exactly why God sent His Son into this cruel world. He did it to bring salvation to us.

Jesus was born of flesh in Mary’s womb to save all of us from our sins. Without Jesus being born to save us, we would all die because we are sinners. We all have a sinful nature we do things that are not pleasing to God. But Jesus was born and saved us from our wrongdoings by dying on the cross for all of us. Because of Jesus, we can ask God to come into our hearts and forgive us. Then we will be able to ascend into that beautiful place in the clouds above. If we believe that Jesus died for us, then we will be able to truly be happy at Christmas. We don't have to think about the gifts underneath the tree, for we have the greatest gift of all: the Son who was born to save us all from our sins. Isn’t that the greatest gift you could’ve ever asked for?”
