School Counseling

Counselor Brown

Welcome to the Cadott school family!  I am your child’s school counselor, Jessica Brown.  I’m excited to serve you.  School counseling is about preparing students for their future and eliminating barriers to their success.

My work helps students:

·       believe in themselves

·       dream big

·       develop 21st century skills needed for career success, such as creativity, collaboration, social skills, self-management, and leadership

All students in kindergarten-6th grade have “school counseling class” with me twice a month to work on these areas through games, stories, and skill practice.  Our learning space is a classroom shared with the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) class taught by Mr. Kotek.

When I’m not teaching, you can find me in the school counseling office.  This is where I meet with students for individual and small group counseling.  Healthy friendships, family changes, coping skills, and other aspects of emotional wellbeing are common topics for individual meetings and counseling groups.  Parents can contact me anytime if you feel your child needs short-term support at school.  I can also help connect you with long-term therapy options.

When I am not at school, you might find me cross-country skiing, hiking, or reading around the Chippewa Valley or in northern Wisconsin where I grew up and attended school. My Master’s in Counseling Education is from UW-Superior, and my Bachelor’s degree is from Northland College in Ashland, WI.  The year 2016 was my first as a school counselor.  I’ve been at Cadott since 2021.  Let’s have a great year!
