Flipbook Smoke with Customizable Color Made with Houdini
Start from a sphere, then add animated mountain noise to it
Add the Pyrosource node, name an attribute as "density"
Add Volumeraterizeattributes with attributes set to density-copy and paste the attribute path from Pyrosource and paste it under Voxel Size
Then it's time to smoke it with Pyrosolver, here are my attributes for the simulation
Render a 64-frame sequence with a camera and a point light
Export the image sequence
We need to make a flipbook texture with the images. We can do this via Houdini but since there's a size limit, I picked a faster way using Frame Surgeon
We're ready to go to the next step with this exported!
We need to build a Sub-UV material for the particle use
Make a Niagara emitter, assign the material, and set the Sub image size under Sub UV to 8 by 8
Then add the Sub UVAnimation and define the sprite renderer
Lifetime controls the play rate. I added a user parameter to change the color
We've got colored smoke that almost seems like fire!
Scale RGB with a curve, we can get more color variation overtime
