The teacher’s knowledge of resources for classroom use and for extending one’s professional skill is extensive, including those available through the school or district, in the community, through professional organizations and universities, and on the Internet.

Some of the best resources that we have as teachers are books. While teaching writing, I have discovered that using books as mentor texts are some of the best tools that we can provide for our students. Allowing them to see and read examples of good authors makes them scholarly authors themselves. During my Language Arts Methods class, I created a list of mentor text resources. Each resource is a book that highlights one of the six essential writing traits to become a great writer. For each writing standard, there are 3 books, a picture book, a novel, and an expository text. The list to each of the different mentor texts that illustrates the great writing standards are on this document. Having this reference tool helps me know what tools I can use to improve my writing instruction with my students.
Finding the correct resources to use while teaching can lead a lesson to success. These resources provide us the tools in which students can meet the objectives of our lesson. In my senior practicum, I have used a variety of different resources to provide tools for my students to succeed. Those tools include technology resources, mentor texts, school library, copying machines, and online resources. Below, I list a few of the resources I have used and how they have been a benefit to my teaching. These images below to represent each resources were found on the web and are not my own. They were selected to provide a visual representation of what resources I use and where I find them.
When teaching students how to use a thesaurus, I was able to find enough copies for every two students to have one. This resource was found at the Summit Hills Elementary school.
When teaching writing, I find mentor texts at the BYU-Idaho library in the children's book section.
Knowledge of resources in the classroom also shapes lesson instruction. Every student has their own chromebooks in the class. This is one example of demonstrating knowledge of resources the students already have.
While teaching in my senior practicum, some of the resources that I use everyday are technological resources found through google. These help me make presentations, create quizzes, and build worksheets for the students.
