Using Google Sketchup (CAD Sotware)
by Jackson & Ng Yew Hian
This online asynchronous workshop is designed specifically for teachers to explore the potential of Google SketchUp as a powerful tool for enhancing creativity and collaboration in the classroom.
In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create their own 3D model of a simple chair by following a YouTube video tutorial. Participants will leave the workshop with the experience of creating 3D objects using Google SketchUp.
The workshop will begin with an introduction to Google SketchUp, providing an overview of its features and functionalities. Participants will learn the basics of creating 3D models, manipulating objects, and applying textures and materials to their designs. They will also explore the various tools and options available within SketchUp to bring their ideas to life.
To add to the fun of learning Google Sketchup, Mr Ng Yew Hian has kindly handcrafted a unique stationery holder to be awarded to the first person who can complete the task of drawing a chair (see pictures below) using Google Sketchup.
Be the first to submit your completed chair to me at ng_chip_khiang_jackson@schools.gov.sg, to qualify.

As part of the conclusion to the learning package, there was a prize for the first colleague who submitted their design of the chair. We are happy to announce that Dr Banu has won a handmade stationery holder specially made by Mr Ng Yew Hian using a process known as wood turning.
Thank you everyone who tried out Google Sketchup. Do look out for our next edition to discover more possibilities for yourself.
