Our goal is to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students. Our program focuses on helping students achieve academic and personal success through a variety of preventive and developmentally-appropriate activities.
In order to meet different needs, our counseling program offers many services for you and your child.
Universal Tier I and Tier II Services from Ms. B:
Whole classroom lessons K-5: I am in each classroom every three weeks to address broad developmental topics (Ex: Self-esteem, social skills, problem-solving skills, career awareness, etc.). If you want to learn about what we're talking about in the classroom click the Grade Level SEL tab!
Small groups: Referred by classroomteachers for students who share similar skill development (Ex: executive functioning, self-regulation, friendship skills, banana splits, lunch bunch!).
Individual check-ins/ Friend Mediations: Available for students who have specific needs (family, friend stuff, feelings, schoolwor, other kids, my choices, etc). It is brief and solution-focused (5-6 check ins in a year). Typically, families of students who need more support than a few individual check-in will receive a call from me and we will check in around progress and continued needs and resources.
Consultation: Please let me know if you would like to speak with me (email is my preferred initial contact to set up a chat) and brainstorm different strategies to support your child with their at school behaviors. Ms. B does not consult or focus on behaviors that are happening at home. That is outisde her scope as a school counselor. I also consult with our Mental Health Team and Mental Health Adcovate as my systems of support.
A comprehensive elementary school counselor provides education, prevention and intervention services in the areas of academic, career and social/emotional development supports. It is important to note that elementary counselors are not therapists; rather they are professional educators with a mental health perspective. They typically spend the majority of their time working on universal instruction and working with all students. The elementary counselors will work in collaboration with administration, teachers, the mental health team and parents to determine the needs of all students within each building.
