Be bold.
BuzzFeed’s mission is to bring truth and joy to our audiences. Our branding should convey this message by being strong, eye-catching, and a little unusual. (Truth is stranger than fiction, after all.)
Keep moving.
BuzzFeed’s evolution has been non-stop since our early days of being a single website. From movie studios to live events to consumer products, BuzzFeed has never stopped moving. Our brand design aims to capture this momentum.
Bring our past into the future.
BuzzFeed has built a strong brand presence over the 15+ years of its existence. We will always embrace the parts of our branding that have entered the internet’s collective consciousness (LOL! OMG!), while working to keep our design fresh and relevant to today.
The one-line BuzzFeed wordmark logo should be used whenever representation of our main brand is required.
At sizes smaller than 1.5" or 450 px in width, the main wordmark without the registered trademark symbol may be used.
The stacked version should only be used in instances where the one-line logo would be disproportionately small in its intended placement, such as social avatars and co-branded treatments with similarly-sized logos.
At sizes smaller than 1.5" or 450 px in width, the stacked wordmark without the registered trademark symbol may be used.
The BuzzFeed arrow icon may serve as a stand-in for the brand for avatars. The wordmark should remain the primary representation of BuzzFeed’s brand in logo lock-ups.
When combining our wordmark and arrow icon, position the arrow at the beginning of the wordmark and adjust to be slightly larger than the cap-height of the wordmark. The space between the two should be roughly half the cap-height.
At sizes smaller than 1.5" or 450 px in width, the combined logomark without the registered trademark symbol may be used.
Knocked-out, single color logos in black or white are permitted for use when the composition (digital or print) requires fewer colors, or our logo will be placed alongside multiple other logos. Use the default color logos for light and dark backgrounds in all other situations.

We created a logotype to convey and evoke our new values and mission. An optically adjusted version for small surfaces and products can be used for specialty applications and printing at small sizes. The following pages have more information on how to use the logo in different applications.
When it should be used: Whenever possible as the main representation of our brand.
The BuzzFeed Wordmark (excluding copyright symbol) should have clearance equal to the cap-height on each side.
Co-branded treatments should visually weight both logos equally, with spacing equal to the cap-height of the logos in between.
When wordmark is less than 1.5” or 450 px in width, use version without copyright symbol.
Vertical placement
Horizontal placement
When incorporating the BuzzFeed into sub brand logos:
BuzzFeed wordmark without copyright symbol may be scaled down to 20% (or larger) of the main logo.
The standalone BuzzFeed wordmark should be placed above or to the left of the logo.
When styled as “By BuzzFeed”, the wordmark may be placed below or to the right of the logo.
The wordmark may be right, left, or center-aligned.

BuzzFeed’s signature red and yellow aren’t going anywhere, but the tonal variants have received an update to improve contrast and balance saturation. We’ve added a blue to the main palette to serve as a cooler, less intense option.
Hero colors should serve as the main colors in our branding.

🚫 Don't use color combinations for text that don't provide adequate contrast for legibility
✅ Do balance saturation and tone to achieve adequate contrast
🚫 Don't choose high-contrast color combos for patterns behind text
✅ Do use the tonal palette to create low-contrast pattern backgrounds for text
🚫 Don't layer BuzzFeed Red and BuzzFeed Blue directly over one another
✅ Do pair BuzzFeed Red with a darker blue tone, or switch elements accordingly to prevent colors vibrating
BuzzFeed uses Proxima Nova as its main brand font across all media. Different weights of Proxima Nova are encouraged to create hierarchy in type treatments.
Proxima Nova should be the primary font for all BuzzFeed-branded applications. Secondary fonts are allowed to be used in conjunction with Proxima Nova to add contrast and hierarchy. Secondary fonts should not be overly similar to Proxima Nova, and reinforce the BuzzFeed brand philosophy. (No cursive, hand-drawn, or blackletter fonts.)
Below are some recommended supplementary fonts for BuzzFeed branding. Multiple weights may be used to create contrast and hierarchy.
🚫 Don't use fonts other than Proxima Nova as a hero font
✅ Do give type appropriate line-height and character-spacing to ensure readability
🚫 Don't pair Proxima Nova with a too-similar font
✅ Do use fonts with sufficient contrast against Proxima Nova
🚫 Don’t make text-heavy compositions too uniform in weight and size
✅ Do use different weights and sizes of Proxima Nova to create hierarchy
🚫 Don’t stretch or skew body copy
✅ Do play with stretching and skewing in graphic compositions where readability is not a priority
BuzzFeed’s shape language is simple and geometric. Keeping the building blocks simple allows us more freedom to manipulate them in interesting and unexpected ways.
One of BuzzFeed’s core design principles is movement. Our branding makes use of changes in repetition and scale to suggest 3D space and serve as a continuous background element in compositions.
Repetition
to create a continuous pattern
Repetition and Scale
to replicate movement in 3D space
Skewing and warping of shape elements (vector assets only) is encouraged to create unique and dynamic compositions with a sense of motion.

Shapes can be layered over other graphic or photo elements to add movement and interest to compositions.
When layering elements, take care to preserve contrast, readability, and sufficient negative space in the composition.
BuzzFeed’s signature badges consist of all-caps Proxima Nova Extra Bold text rotated counter-clockwise at a 30 degree angle. Words should be scaled to fit within the badge boundary, leaving room on all sides. We have a preset library of core badges, with a custom badge template.
Custom text badges should follow the same guidelines as our default badges:
Proxima Nova Black (#000000) against circle (#FFEE00)
Visually center-align (horizontally and vertically)
Scale to fit within badge without crowding edges
Rotated 30 degrees counterclockwise
Custom image badges must be simple and readable at 50 px by 50 px. Avoid textures or fine lines. Rotation for non-text badges is optional.
BuzzFeed’s brand patterns are created from applications of our established graphic elements. They uphold the tenets of our design philosophy—boldness, movement, and past influences made new—and are versatile in both style and practical use.
Our brand patterns consist of the following core designs, listed below. Some patterns have variant designs.
Plaid Logos
Circle Logos
Warped Grid
Moving Grid
Pointed Circles
Chunky Shapes
Triangle Check
Plaid Donuts

Wavy Squares

Textural patterns are brand patterns in low-contrast color combinations that can live in the background of compositions.
Contrasting patterns are brand patterns in high-contrast color combinations meant to be the focal point of a composition. Text should never be placed directly over these color combinations.
If a textural pattern still has too much contrast for text or other important elements to be read against, you may add a transparent color overlay in one of the pattern colors to decrease contrast.

Brand patterns are seamless and can be tiled to cover a greater area. Patterns can also be scaled up or down to increase or decrease the density of the pattern.

Most brand patterns can be scaled both uniformly and non-uniformly (vector asset only). This allows for a greater range of visual designs as well as increasing or decreasing the density of patterns, as needed.

BuzzFeed logo animations should be used for brand-centric media (sizzle reels, trade shows, etc.). The default animations are suitable for all sizes (including bugs) and applications.
The repeating-circle alternate logo animation may be used when the animation is the focal point, such as video end cards.
Looping animated patterns are suitable for stream backgrounds, event screens, and video backdrops. All animations seamlessly loop. (Examples below are cut short to reduce file size.)
Transition animated patterns are transparent quick cuts for video.
