Field Trips
Each year, the WorkAbility Program (students with IEPs only) provides field trips to local community colleges in the fall (i.e. GCC, LAVC).
Field trips are also scheduled in the spring to GCC for students to sign up for GCC's Early College Acceptance Program, GCC's Summer Bridge Program, and GCC's Promise Plus (financial aid).
Specifically, the field trip to GCC (Glendale Community College) involves:
A presentation/general overview of college by an Outreach Center representative covering: reasons to attend GCC, how to enroll, student life/activities, financial aid interest link QR code, and distribution of packet with available degrees and certificate programs.
A tour of the college campus including Administration, Counseling, Student Employment, Financial Aid, EOPS, Transfer Center, Health Center, Classrooms, Auditorium, DSPS Offices, and the Accommodations office.
A presentation from DSPS counselor detailing services, how/why to initiate services, DOR services, Accommodation vs. Modifications, Importance of IEP in establishing eligibility for services, and FERPA.
All students are required to have a signed parent permission form to attend. The field trips for Fall 2023 are currently scheduled for October.
