Prior to being assigned as the Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church, Friar Paul was the Pastor at the Franciscan Church of St. Bonaventure, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. From 2005 to 2011, he served for six years as the Executive Director of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM).
Fr. Paul has served on the faculties of several universities and colleges, including the famous Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Department of Medical Psychiatry, Baltimore, Maryland. He oversaw a number of research projects conduct by Johns Hopkins University. In addition to many varied ministries, Fr. Paul has served as the post-novitiate formation director for his Conventual Franciscan Community in Washington, DC.
Fr. Paul holds a Doctorate and several Masters’ Degrees in Psychology and Counseling from Loyola University as well as Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Theology form St. Anthony-on-Hudson in conjunction with New York State University. Likewise, he holds several undergraduate degrees from various universities. He joined the Order of Friars Minor Conventual in the 70’s and was ordained in 1981.
Maria Gomez has worked in Catholic education for forty-four years. She attained her degree from Elon University and she is certified to teach middle and high school Science and Social Studies. She taught for eight years in the Archdiocese of New York City before returning to North Carolina and began teaching at Blessed Sacrament School in 1986. She became Principal in 2012.
In 1991, Maria was selected Alamance County Teacher of The Year for Independent Schools. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Msgr. Gerald Lewis Award for Outstanding Teacher of the Year for the Diocese of Raleigh. Also in 2006, Maria completed her Master’s in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix.
Mrs. Tichy is the Middle School Science teacher as well as the STREAM coordinator. She the product of Catholic education and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education (K-8) from Loyola University, New Orleans. After graduating she has spent her years educating students at Catholic schools in Alabama and New Jersey as well as substituting for Alamance Burlington School System and Blessed Sacrament School.
As the Assistant Director of Education for Sylvan Learning Center in New Jersey, she spent time tutoring students in grades K-12 focusing on Math, Reading/Language Arts and Study Skills. She uses this experience to incorporate study strategies, such as interactive notebooks, in her science lessons to help middle schoolers learn techniques that will benefit them throughout their educational experience.
When not in the classroom, she volunteered her time to coach students for the NC Science Olympiad competition where in the spring of 2018 her students placed first in Super Sleuths as well as placing first overall. Mrs. Tichy has been an involved parishioner helping to develop the Faith Based Religious Education (FBRE) program as well as teaching in the program. Mrs. Tichy and her husband, Dan, are active members of the Blessed Sacrament School community along with their children, Michaela and Andrew.
Mrs. Kennedy is in her third year of teaching at Blessed Sacrament School. She is our 4th grade teacher, Elementary STREAM Coordinator and Science teacher for 3rd and 4th grade. She attended Guilford College, where she graduated in 2013 with a degree in Elementary Education and Peace & Conflict Studies.
Prior to her time here, she taught for 6 years in the Guilford County and Alamance-Burlington School Systems. Immediately before coming to Blessed Sacrament, she served on her school's STEM Committee, where she was responsible for leading, coordinating, and organizing events for the STEM program.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Kennedy spends most of her time with her husband and 4 year old daughter, Mia. They love exploring parks and museums in the Triad area together, as well as trying new recipes at home! She also enjoys crafting, puzzles, and traveling in her spare time. Mrs. Kennedy is thrilled to be a part of the Blessed Sacrament community and loves sharing her love of science and technology with her students!
Mrs. Bolen is our third grade teacher. She attended North Carolina State University ('09), where she earned a B.S. in middle grades education with a concentration in Language Arts and Social Studies. She later achieved her Master's of Education in K-12 Reading (Reading Specialist) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ('14), as well as her Principal's Licensure from Appalachian State University ('21). She is currently licensed in K-12 Reading, Language Arts 6-9, and Social Studies 6-12.
Mrs. Bolen began her teaching career in 2009 with Wake County School System, where she taught 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies. Upon moving to the Burlington Area in the middle of the school year, she began working at Dudley High School in Guilford County to finish out the 2011 school year. In 2012, she began working at Western Middle School in ABSS. While at Western, she taught mostly 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies, but also conducted reading and language interventions with grades 6-8. After many years at Western, she eventually followed her daughter, Reagan, to BSS.
She and her husband, Jason, have two children. Reagan is currently in third grade and Archie is in preschool. Reagan started at BSS in preschool and they fell in love with the school and community. They also have two dogs. They foster Autumn, a golden retriever they foster, who is also 3, but is a true sweetheart. They also have a new puppy, Liberty.
Mrs. Dominique Martin (Preudhomme) is very excited to be teaching at Blessed Sacrament School this year. She teaches 4th grade reading and social studies in the morning and 5th and 6th grade math in the afternoon.
In 2001, Mrs. Martin moved from Colorado to Burlington with her family, and she and her siblings attended Blessed Sacrament School. Mrs. Martin attended Elon University as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. After graduating, she worked in the Alamance-Burlington School System, where she served on her school's STEM Committee. Mrs. Martin is happy to be back at Blessed Sacrament, but this time as a teacher! Her two children, Avery (K) and Xander (3rd), attend Blessed Sacrament, and her husband is a first grade teacher with the Alamance-Burlington School System.
When Mrs. Martin is not teaching, she enjoys playing board games and video games. She also likes crafting, Origami, decorating cakes and cupcakes, and spending time with her family.
