Mrs. Tichy is the Middle School Science teacher as well as the STREAM coordinator. She the product of catholic education and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education (K-8) from Loyola University, New Orleans. After graduating she has spent her years educating students at catholic schools in Alabama and New Jersey as well as substituting for Alamance Burlington School System and Blessed Sacrament.
As the Assistant Director of Education for Sylvan Learning Center in New Jersey, she spent time tutoring students in grades K-12 focusing on Math, Reading/Language Arts and Study Skills. One of her objectives is to incorporate study strategies such as interactive notebooks in her science lessons to help the middle schoolers learn techniques that will benefit them throughout their educational experience.
When not in the classroom, she volunteered her time to coach students for the NC Science Olympiad competition where in the spring of 2018 her students placed first in Super Sleuths as well as placing first overall. Mrs. Tichy has been an involved parishioner helping to develop the Faith Based Religious Education (FBRE) program as well as teaching in the program. Mrs. Tichy and her husband, Dan, are very excited to be a part of the Blessed Sacrament School community along with their children, Michaela and Andrew.
In the LabLearner Unit Chemical Reaction, the third investigation reflects back on a topic we discussed in 6th grade (introduced in the Properties of Matter unit and Weathering and Erosion Unit) about how to speed up a chemical reaction and has the students explore how a catalyst, a new term, can also affect a chemical reaction. We complete Investigation 1-2 and complete the Elephant Toothpaste as an alternate investigation 3.
This is the most requested lab that we do in all of middle school.
