Mrs. Jennifer Lee is our Art Teacher for all grades in our school, as well as the Religion teacher for 1st, 3rd & 4th grades. She became the BSS Art and Elementary Religion teacher in 2019, but her connections to BSS spans for more than 20 years! Mrs. Lee attended Wingate University and holds an Associate of Arts, Effective Teaching Training and Basic Catechism Training.
Mrs. Lee shares with us, "What I love most about BSS is how it feels like home. Coming to work gives me an extended family, and a steady constant in my life! BSS is not just a school, it is a family. When I toured the school with my husband in the year 2000 as a 27 year-old mom, I never imagined this school would give me and my children lifelong friends and a “family”. I look forward to spending many more years here as a Knight"
Mrs. Lee and her husband Bobby have 4 children: Jessica, Savannah (AlumnKnight '12), Olivia (AlumnKnight '16) and Ryder (AlumnKnight '19). The three youngest attended Blessed Sacrament School PS thru 8th grade. They all loved being a part of the BSS community and playing sports for the Knights. Mrs. Lee shares, "BSS has shaped them into the great students, athletes, and the caring young adults they are today! Once a Knight.... Always a Knight"
The family also has 3 dogs; twin poodles and a hound dog. When she is not at work, Mrs. Lee loves spending time with her family and traveling. The Lee's enjoy spending holidays and summers with their family in Florida, and they love going camping. Mrs. Lee enjoys all things sports and loves to read a good book!
My favorite STREAM project my students create is...
TIN IMPRESSED SUGAR SKULL ART
Hispanic Heritage Month Project (October 2021)
This project was hung along the Altar at our Day of the Dead (el Día de los Muertos) prayer service. This is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration.
Students researched Hispanic Art and had to write 2 paragraphs on Hispanic Art History, the genres of Art, or a Famous Hispanic Artist.
We researched and talked about Sugar Skulls and the significance and relation to the Hispanic Art Culture.
Students were given 2 blank large outline drawings of a Skull and they were to design their own skulls.
Students then chose their favorite design and I gave them a smaller 4x6 blank skull and they were to copy in pencil their favorite design in the blank skull.
Students then were given a 6x8 piece of art tin back with foam and we clipped their small original skull design on top of the tin. They then took a dull pencil and traced over their design and it was imprinted into the tin. When completed they could either choose to add color with sharpies or take black acrylic paint to brush on to make it look antique.
