The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) monitors monitors six categories of health-related behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults, including—
Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
Sexual behaviors related to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection
Alcohol and other drug use
Tobacco use
Unhealthy dietary behaviors
Inadequate physical activity
YRBS is a system of surveys. It includes 1) a national school-based survey conducted by CDC and state, territorial, tribal, and 2) local surveys conducted by state, territorial, and local education and health agencies and tribal governments.The local surveys are conducted every other year.
The infographics below show data from the 2018-2019 school year and compare rates of substance use in Bozeman as compared to state rates. There is another survey planned for Spring of 2021.

How to help your child quit vaping (truth initiative)
Health professionals are strongly urging that adults and adolescents stay vape and tobacco-free during the COVID-19 pandemic. A new study out this month (October, 2020) shows that adolescents and young adults that use electronic cigarettes are at elevated risk of COVID-19 progression compared with non-smokers. Electronic cigarette use weakens the immune system and compromises the lungs which can lead to worse infection, more significant symptoms, and exacerbated health outcomes.
