Install Respondus
Every Respondus download is specific to the school you are downloading it for. Meaning, if you have a version of Respondus on your computer from another school, you still need to download the Bryan College of Health Sciences version. If you need to download this version of Respondus you must download it from this specific link
You must also use a specific browser to download Respondus. If you are using a Windows (PC) computer you must be in the current version of Chrome. If you are using a Mac you must be in the current version of Safari. Other browsers will not work for this purpose. Respondus cannot be downloaded to Chromebooks. If you have a Chromebook, you will need to use a school laptop for exams.
To begin a test in Respondus, you must open Respondus as your browser, go to Canvas, sign in, and navigate to the exam.
Here is a student quick-guide
Note: The college is now using both Respondus Lockdown Browser and Respondus Lockdown Browser with Monitor, so be sure to pay close attention to which version the course is requiring. Here is more information on Respondus Lockdown Browser with Monitor if you need it.
Update Respondus
For Windows users, start Respondus LockDown Browser, select the “i” button from the toolbar, and then click “Check for Newer Version”. The version will be displayed and you will be able to download a newer version if one is available.
For Mac users, start Respondus LockDown Browser, select “About” from the toolbar, and then click “Check for Update.” The version will be displayed and you will be able to download a newer version if one is available.
Using Respondus LockDown with Monitor
Respondus LockDown with Monitor is a feature available to further enhance test security. It operates very similarly to Respondus LockDown Browser, but the Monitor feature requires the use of a webcam. The webcam can be built into your computer or can be the type that plugs in with a USB cable. The video below will provide a basic understanding of LockDown Browser and the webcam feature. A student Quick Start Guide is also available.
Here is the link to download Respondus Lockdown Browser
Start LockDown Browser, log into Canvas and select this course.
Locate and select the Help Center button on the LockDown Browser toolbar.
Run the Webcam Check and, if necessary, resolve any issues.
Run the System & Network Check. If a problem is indicated, see if a solution is provided in the Knowledge Base. Troubleshooting information can also be emailed to our institution's help desk.
Exit the Help Center and locate the practice quiz named “LockDown Browser/Webcam Practice Quiz”.
Upon completing and submitting the practice quiz, exit LockDown Browser.
Remember the following guidelines:
Ensure you're in a location where you won't be interrupted
Turn off all other devices (e.g. tablets, phones, second computers)
Clear your desk of all external materials not permitted — books, papers, other devices
Remain at your computer for the duration of the test
If the computer or networking environment is different than what was tested above, repeat the Webcam and System checks prior to starting the test
To produce a good webcam video, do the following:
Avoid wearing baseball caps or hats with brims
Ensure your computer or tablet is on a firm surface (a desk or table) — not on your lap, a bed, or other surfaces that might move
If using a built-in webcam, avoid tilting the screen after the webcam setup is complete
Take the exam in a well-lit room and avoid backlighting, such as sitting with your back to a window
Remember that LockDown Browser will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications; you will be unable to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted.
