Benefits Include:
Auto Saving Feature
Have you ever forgotten to save a document? How about lost work because the computer crashed or died? Lost work because of a power outage? Well, have no fear! Google drive applications automatically save as you work, so losing information will no longer be a worry!
Version History
Have you ever changed something trying to make it better only to end up wishing you hadn't? All Google Suite programs have automatic versioning. Meaning, you can change something and days later decide you liked the previous wording better and easily revert back. What if you have made great progress on the whole document but one paragraph got changed, you can view the preferred wording through versioning, copy and paste that into the current version!
Versioning helps with this too! Let's say you complete a google assignment on time, you are happy with the submission. But somehow the instructor never receives your submission? You can Screen Shot (Ctrl + PrtScn) then paste the version history into a blank google doc, download it as a pdf, and email it to the instructor to prove when you started the assignment and the last time you edited/or added to it.
Combine those two features with the Collaboration features and Google Doc's is the way to Go!
First read through this link for the most important instructions and information.
To prevent duplicate documents, once you upload the Word file into your Google Drive, right click on the file and say 'Open with Docs'
This will automatically convert the Word file to a Google Doc's file.
NOTE: Using this feature is nice when you find something you can do in Word, but Google Doc's doesn't yet have the ability, like formatting a table for example. Create the table in Word, to look the way you want, then upload it to Google Drive, and open it in Doc's. Doc's will read the formatting correctly, even if the program cannot create the formatting.
Once you have the Orginal Word file open in Doc's, delete the word file. This will help avoid confusion.
(Then he starts speaking about Sheets, which is also in the Sheets Page)
