4.11- Intro to Lit Circles

Literature Circles 

Our final portion of unit 4 (and the school year!) will be devoted to literature circles. Literature circles are independent reading and group study of a book of your choosing. You will look through all the book options, pick your top 3, and I will use that to place you into a partnership. Within that partnership, you will read your book (some days together, some days on your own) and complete analysis work. This is self paced and group lead meaning that I am not walking you through the book. Rather, you and your partner are studying and making meaning of the book on your own. It is your responsibility to read and do the corresponding work. However, I am still here to help and clarify of course! 

Your final grade will be a one pager on your book.

1. Book tastings

There are 11 books to choose from, so there should be something you're interested in. Pick a book you'd want to read- it'll be more fun that way! We will have time in class to look at all 11 options. You'll make notes on a sheet of paper and then pick your top 3 choices.

NOTE: If you and a partner want to do a book that is NOT one of my options and you both have a way to get a copy, come talk to me, and we can see if you can do it!

2. Pick your top 3

Fill out the google form below to record your choices. I will then use that to put you in a group. I will do my best to give you one of your top 3, but you must fill out the form!!

4. look at your weekly assignments

This will help you on your one pager and keep track of your reading. You have something to do each week, so take a look at the following assignments. These are digital in case you lose your paper copies.

Each Friday, I will check your progress. If you are where you need to be by each meeting, it's a 100!

What to have done by each meeting:

Meeting 1:

• Start on Character Analysis (you won't have it completely filled)

• 3 Vocab words listed AND DEFINED

• Meeting 1 section of Theme Tracker 

• 3 Figurative Language examples

Meeting 2:

• Continue on Character Analysis (aim for about halfway full)

• 6 TOTAL Vocab words listed AND DEFINED

• Meeting 2 section of Theme Tracker 

• 6 TOTAL Figurative Language examples

Meeting 3:

• Continue on Character Analysis (aim for mostly full)

• 9 TOTAL Vocab words listed AND DEFINED

• Meeting 3 section of Theme Tracker 

• 9 TOTAL Figurative Language examples

Meeting 4:

• Finish book and packet!
