The music rooms are used by over 400 students each day! We are lucky to have use of such high quality (and expensive) equipment. This equipment is property of ALL Ralston music students, which means that we all have a responsibility to keep it as nice as possible. If one student’s instrument is broken, it affects the whole group; if one music stand needs to be replaced, all contribute to the cost of replacing it. To that end, there are a few guidelines for making the music room a nice place to be:
- Please finish your food or drinks before you come into the music room (water is okay).
- Play only your personal instrument. Sharing wind instruments is unsanitary (not to mention grody).
- Only percussionists play drums, and with the correct mallets/drumsticks. Only cellists/bassists should be in the cello/bass room.
- If you move something, move it back.
- Do not write on the music stands. School property is not the place to broadcast your opinions and the names of your new crush...
- Only music students are allowed in the music room, even during lunch time.
- Watch your volume. Inappropriate sounds (noise-making that is clearly not related to practice) will be your invitation to leave. Practice your most obnoxious noises at home : )
- Use of the music room during lunch time is for music-related activities only. Please check with Ms. Webster or Mr. Thielen before coming to the music room during lunch.
- You may not be in the music room unattended. Please line up outside to wait for a music teacher to arrive.
- The music office is Mr. Thielen’s and Ms. Webster’s office and personal space. We are always happy to see you and talk to you, but please knock before entering.
- If you see something wrong (something spilled, writing on a stand, non-music students in the locker room), please let a teacher know immediately.
As always, these guidelines are all part of being Responsible, Accountable, Mindful and Supportive at Ralston!
