Home practice is essential to improving on a musical instrument. Each student will be expected to maintain an accurate record of what he/she practiced and the duration of his/her practice. Practice records should include enough detail so that I can help problem-solve and offer guidance.
- Practice records should be up to date at all times. Make it part of your practice routine to fill out your practice record at the end of each practice session.
- As private lessons are encouraged, the time spent at private lessons for your band or orchestra instrument should be counted toward your practice requirement, but students are still expected to practice their school music as well.
- A number of students participate in an outside music ensemble, such as a local youth orchestra. Rehearsal time may be counted toward the practice requirement.
- Private lessons and practice on piano may count for ½ time, but total piano time must not be more than 50% of a student’s practice—the majority of practice should be on his/her school instrument!
- If you are having problems with practice, it is better to speak with me ahead of time so I can problem solve with you.
- If a student loses a practice record, please come see Ms. Webster for an alternative assignment
