1. Daily Points (50%)
Each day students will receive 3 points simply for coming to class prepared and for participating. In order to be prepared for class, students will need the following materials:
- Instrument in working order; if it is in the repair shop, please present a note from a parent.
- All instrument accessories (reeds, valve oil, neck strap, drum sticks, etc)
- Black binder with all class music placed in clear plastic page protectors (Ralston will supply binders and clear plastic page protectors to 6th graders, new students or upon request). I will also provide a few pages of musical manuscript paper and looseleaf paper to keep in the binder when necessary.
- A functioning pencil. On your stand, ready to go. Every day. Seriously!
- An up to date practice record. Students should fill out their practice records as they practice and keep it in their music binders. Ms. Webster will occasionally (weekly?) spot check practice records to see that they are being filled out.
If a student comes unprepared to class, he/she loses daily points. Students may also lose points for disrupting the ensemble’s progress and the other students’ ability to learn. On the other hand, students may also earn extra points for being positive and constructive participants in class, helping other students, taking good initiative or simply playing with good posture.
