Upcoming Opportunities for Chairs and/or Departments
Accepting Nominations or Applications April 1-28, 2026
The Brown University Faculty Leadership Program provides participants, known as Fellows, exposure to a comprehensive, cohort-based year-long leadership curriculum designed to equip new and emerging faculty leaders with the mindset and frameworks to lead in a range of contexts. The program runs from September through April, meeting for six content sessions in addition to an kickoff orientation and a closing reception. This program is most suitable for current or soon-to-be Chairs, Directors, DGSs, DUSs, and other part-time administrative leadership roles.
Applications will open in early Spring 2026 for the Summer 2026 Institute
The Values-Enacted Leadership Institute (VELI) is an opportunity for a campus-based team to uncover and leverage the influence, resources, and capabilities they already possess to create meaningful institutional transformation rooted in shared values. A sross-unit campus team comprised of up to four people will identify a change project they propose in advance for an immersive five-day residential experience alongside teams from other institutions, during which time they will:
Articulate and prioritize shared values
Map institutional processes and power structures to reveal opportunities for values-enacted intervention
Develop concrete, actionable plans for their specific change project
Build connections with change leaders across institutions
Brown's team and change project will be identified over the course of AY 25-26. People interested in proposing change projects or organizing a team should contact Esther Jones for more information.

2025-26 Institute on Inquiry, Equity and Leadership in the Academic Department
Up to five chairs or academic unit heads from Brown University will join cohorts of chairs/unit heads from other IVY+ institutions in a yearlong program, participating in cross-consortium teams to engage in a series of inquiries into equity-minded strategies for improving their departments and fomenting systemic change.
Fellows meet virtually and in-person to interrogate how systems shape the academic profession and to understand the difference faculty can make in reshaping it.
The program is designed to help faculty leaders in the work they are already doing as chairs, heads, and in similar academic leadership roles.
In addition to taking local action, Fellows conclude by designing and proposing multi-university initiatives to a panel of subject matter experts and foundation leaders. These capstones become shovel-ready projects for local or foundation support—or for Fellows to advance on their own.
Fellows will leave with new tools of leadership, like-minded partners, and support from the highest levels for leading changes demonstrated to advance a more inclusive excellence and to help all faculty thrive in their units.
Scaling impact, FAN universities deploy the Institute’s videos, workbooks, and other best-in-class resources for their faculty development programs.
Brown's cohort for AY 25-26 has been selected. Interested chairs or directors should contact Esther Jones or Matthew Guterl with a brief statement of interest no later than June 15th, 2025. Visit the Ivy+ FAN Institute website for more information.
