Children should be able to make sense of the world around them and begin to form an understanding of how, and why, things work/change. This includes our world, technology and their community.
Science experiments!
Talk about the weather, do a daily update - what is the weather doing? Is it hot or cold? Talk about the seasons. Could your child record their own weather report?
Google maps have a look at our local community (Brooklands) and zoom out, explore Milton Keynes, England, the UK and then the world.
Observe change - melt ice or chocolate, freeze water or juice, bake bread. Ask children to talk about the changes in materials - do they know why?
Talk about history, try to find images of toys from the past - how are they different? What are they made of?
Sort objects by their material: wood, plastic, metal etc. Make a tally chart for objects around your home.
Plant a seed and care for it. Watch it grow.
