Children will be able to count with numbers from 0-20. We encourage them to have a strong sense of number and be confident to tell us one more and one less than a given number. With a confident understanding of number they will then be able to approach addition and subtraction. We encourage the children to use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, distance, time and money. They recognise shapes in their environment and can describe them as well as noticing patterns around them.
Practice counting star jumps, claps, objects and other fun things around the house.
Make a number line with chalk outside - jump on one more or one less than/double/half of...
Play hopscotch with a dice.
Build a tower and then ask the children to add or take away a block - what number is left?
Count how many peas, chicken dippers, chips are on their plate - how many are left after they eat some?
Order dolls, action figures or soft toys in order of size - smallest to biggest.
When in the bath fill different sizes of containers or outside try to lift different objects in the garden - which is heaviest/lightest?
