The reality of Brookings

There are limited things to do in town. Some people might have things to do or people to hang out with, though other people might not be as lucky. People like to do their own kinds of things, but if there are no places for someone to go and enjoy what they like, it's kind of difficult to have fun. 

Brookings is a beautiful town. There is beautiful scenery. There are a couple of beaches, and in those beaches there are plenty of trails to hike. There is the Chetco River and along the river area there are plenty of access points to enjoy a good day at the river.

For the people who like to surf, there are plenty of beaches on where to do that. The coast line is very pretty as well, there are mini caves that can be explored, seashells to collect in the sand.

A good sunny day is perfect to maybe have a picnic at the beach, or to hangout with friends.

For those who like fishing, the Chetco River is perfect for that, many varieties of fish go upstream when it's time for them to do so. People with larger boats can go out into the ocean and try their luck at trying to catch whatever they can depending on the season. When they come back from a day at sea, they can leave their boat at the dock

For those who do not like to do any of that, they’re out of luck. People can’t deny that doing the same thing for entertainment all the time will eventually get old. Going to the beach and just walking around all the time, and what about when it rains?. When it rains the possibilities to do something outdoorsy are very limited.

There are some people here who don’t have family here, and not a lot of friends like in many cases. The rain really doesn't let people do anything outside, and also when it rains since the options and places where people could go are limited, it's really not worth going out sometimes. 

That is where the people can try to find solutions for the problem. As a community, they can come together and brainstorm ideas to try to find a solution. The people involved could try to convince more people to try to help get a larger audience.

Lauri Zeimer, Brookings City Planner said, “For kids, it does have some detriments, because the community is a small area. there are not as many things a big city has, and sometimes kids and teens just have to figure out fun things to do.” The problem here might be that some kids and teens don't know who to hang out with, or where to go.

That makes it hard for kids and teens living in town, because of all those things that might be preventing them from doing things they like or want to do. If they factor in all the things that could go wrong, it makes it very difficult to do anything.

People as a community should try to get something together for kids and teens to join. Like a rec center, or a Entertainment center, for them to enjoy. The city still has the potential to be expanded in a way that everyone would benefit from.

Brookings could improve as a city if people put in the effort to make the city better. People need to propose good ideas that can benefit the whole city, not just the teens.

“I already gave an idea about a rec center. I think what would be huge for Brookings is that people get involved. People could get involved in clubs or leadership,” Zeimer said.

People could get help by going on city websites to look for things
