Share Your Skills! Join the Whisconier Middle School "Unplugged" Maker Space
At WMS, we believe that some of the most important learning happens when students step away from their screens and use their hands. To expand our "Unplugged" initiative, we are transforming a section of our Library into a dedicated Non-Digital Maker Space called the UpCycle Center.
Our goal is to give middle schoolers the chance to learn traditional crafts and "hands-on" skills—like sewing, leatherwork, bookbinding, and more—during their midday study hall (ELT).
We are looking for community experts to host 30-minute workshops!
Do you have a hobby or craft you are passionate about? Whether you are a master knitter, a weekend carpenter, or a journaling enthusiast, our students would benefit immensely from your mentorship.
When: Monday through Friday during ELT (10:45AM-12:30PM).
Where: The WMS Library UpCycle Center.
Format: A simple, 30-minute hands-on session (or session series) for a small group of students.
Materials: We provide the supplies; you provide the expertise!
Middle school is a pivotal time for students to discover new passions. By sharing your time, you aren't just teaching a craft—you’re providing a space for creativity and face-to-face connection.
Interested in helping? Please fill out our brief Interest Form.
NOTE: All volunteers will need to complete a standard Brookfield Public Schools background check. The forms are linked here and can be submitted via email to Lisa Whalen in the WMS main office: whalenl@brookfieldps.org. Thank you!
