Oxford Brookes engaged Nous Group to develop the Digital Strategy. They had a clear directive to work in partnership with the University’s community to ensure that the end result would be meaningful and focused on their needs.
To develop the draft strategy Nous consulted with staff across faculties and directorates, and students, through interviews, focus groups and a digital summit. These sessions focused on understanding how digital is impacting the current experience and where it could improve the experience in the future.
Students expect a seamless digital experience, and feel that the current experience is disjointed and not up to the standard they expect.
Staff digital skills and confidence is varied, but low capability is having a negative impact on the experience of some students, as well as driving inefficiency.
IT infrastructure such as WiFi is one of the most common complaints about digital in the University.
Technology has often been over customised, making it difficult to integrate it with other systems
While a lot of data is collected, it is siloed making it difficult to link between systems and understand what is available
To get the most out of data and analytics staff need more confidence in the quality of the data
The objectives of the Digital Strategy focus around getting the basics right, for example, new Wifi technology being rolled out across our campuses. Recognising that technology alone is not the answer, we are ensuring that staff and students are being given access to the training to enable them to use and adopt the new technologies.
