Athletic Emergency Action Plan

Manual del deportista académico de la escuela secundaria

Plan de acción de emergencia atlética
Athletics are considered an integral part of the school’s educational program. Whether participating on the intramural, interscholastic, or class level, students have an opportunity to acquire fitness, self-discipline, and cooperation. Student interscholastic activities are governed by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) regulations. Eligibility for participation is governed by state law and the CIAC regulations.
District participation in interscholastic athletics shall be subject to approval by the Board. This shall include approval of membership in any leagues, associations, or conferences, or rules for student participation.
It is the Board's policy to provide students interscholastic athletic competition in a variety of sports. Qualified personnel shall be provided for coaching and supervising individual sports. In addition, it is the policy of the Board to provide intramural athletic activities as an outgrowth of class instruction in physical education commensurate with the grade level of the students involved.
All participants in high school intramurals and interscholastic sports must meet the following prerequisites:
Medical Clearance
A physical is required each year a student participates in interscholastic athletics. The proper school form must be completed and returned to the school before the student may practice or play. If the student cannot, for economic or other important reasons, obtain an examination by his/her physician, the district physician will provide the examination upon written request to the registered nurse at the student’s school. The medical history must be filled out by the parent or guardian before the student will be seen by the physician. The interscholastic sports participation health assessment will be valid for a period of 13 months.
Also required is a warning statement which must be filled out and signed by both parent or guardian and prospective student athlete and emergency medical forms Health Assessment Form. These forms will enable the student athlete to receive medical attention for injury or illness that occurs while participating in school sponsored activities if the parent cannot be reached to give consent to emergency personnel.
Concussion Education Plan
Student-athletes may not participate in any intramural or interscholastic activity unless the student-athlete and his/her parent/guardian complete the concussion education plan and sign the informed consent form.
The concussion education plan consists of a pre-assessment prior to the sports season of written materials, online training or videos, and/or in-person training. The consent form includes a summary of the school/district’s concussion education plan and applicable school board concussion policies.
School Attendance
Any student-athlete who has not reported to the school by noon will not be permitted to practice or play that afternoon or evening. Exceptions to this rule will be considered only if the player’s parent explains the unusual circumstances to the principal or designee.
