HSBC was migrating from ccMail to Lotus Notes; at the same time, leases on several floors of their wall street offices were due to expire. Traders could not move to the new offices in midtown until the migration was complete forcing the company to renew leases on several floors that would not be used.
With a few hundred thousand dollars hanging in the balance, I was told: "We know it's an impossible task to migrate and train all these traders in 20 days but give it your best shot."
Not only did we get everyone migrated, but we also did it in less than 20 days. Thanks to a strong technical team with exceptional chemistry that worked late into the evening.
HSBC expressed its gratitude by taking the whole consulting firm out for dinner.
Working with Sheryl is one of the most memorable and enjoyable times in my 17 years in the technology sector. Under her refreshing hands-off management style and strong support, I found myself striving to beat the odds. Completing a project that everyone had given up on, even the hands-on project team was astounded that we brought things in ahead of schedule and under budget.
None of this could have happened without Sheryl. She built a strong team, both technically and from an interpersonal (chemistry) perspective. She was there when we worked late into the evening to provide support, encouragement, and Korean deli food.
Our mutual customer was so delighted they threw a dinner party, not just the team but Sheryl's whole company! Well, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I would work with Sheryl again in a heartbeat. It's good business, great fun, and breathtakingly memorable.
