8th Grade
Eighth grade mathematics is one step in the sequential organization of the mathematics program. This course provides students with a transitional stage in their math journey that is crucial to their success in all future math courses. Instruction covers all 8th grade Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills – developing skills and concepts for the depth of understanding. It includes rich problem-solving that requires students to think critically and make important math connections.
Students must understand concepts, know basic facts, and efficiently use computational skills to select and apply appropriate problem-solving strategies. This rigorous and challenging course requires aptitude for problem solving and abstract concepts. Instruction covers all Algebra I Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills – developing skills and concepts for depth of understanding. This course will count as a high school credit. It is required that students complete and earn credit for Pre-Algebra (Advanced Math) to enroll. Students will be taking the Algebra 1 EOC (STAAR test)
Recommended:
Received credit for Pre-Alegbra with an average of 85 or higher for the year
Received Meets or Masters on the STAAR test

Pre-Algebra is one step in the sequential organization of the mathematics program designed to prepare students for Algebra I. Students must understand concepts, know basic facts, and efficiently use computational skills to apply appropriate problem-solving strategies. Instruction covers all 7th & 8th grade Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills– developing skills and concepts for the depth of understanding. Students are expected to manage a rigorous and fast paced schedule of class activities including homework assignments and various enrichment projects. Student will be taking the 8th Grade Math STAAR.
