LAST UPDATED SPRING 2025
The standard sequence for our instructional BITs is: Task Analysis, Active Participation, Building the Skill, and Practicing the Skill.
Given the nature of authentic project-based learning, TFs will have to receive alternative training. Instead of TFs completing the standard instructional BIT sequence, they will complete the following BITs instead:
Impact of Project-Based Learning
Instructional Elements of PBL
Implementing Project-Based Learning
If you aren’t using the National Office curriculum please feel free to still use this content and adapt the ‘project-based learning instruction’ BIT to meet the needs of your Affiliate.
All Teaching Fellows will complete the PBL BIT workshops instead of the standard instructional BITs. This does not require an alternative orientation schedule. This does require an in-person facilitator.
Teaching Fellows will complete PBL BIT workshops individually during standard instructional BIT delivery. This requires an alternative orientation schedule and space for Teaching Fellows to engage in content without distractions
Teaching Fellows will complete PBL workshops as a group determined by the Site Director/IC during standard instructional BIT delivery. Groups can be configured by content, grade level, department, or interdisciplinary. This requires an alternative orientation schedule, pre-designed grouping, and space for Teaching Fellows to engage in content without distractions.
Instructional Coach (IC) Role - In either structure, the IC is responsible for ensuring that Teaching Fellows complete the checks for understanding (CFUs) throughout the PBL workshops. The method of collection depends on the IC. ICs must set clear parameters/expectations on how they want TFs to complete these workshops.
