BREAKTHROUGH TEACHING RUBRIC (BTR) TRAINING
Site Directors using the Breakthrough Teaching Rubric (BTR) should include time in both TF and IC orientation to train staff on the BTR. You will need the following resources:
BTR User Guide which houses the BTR and more!
IC CONTENT BELOW
BTR Form + Dashboard (found in assigned box folder)
ICs can use the Google Forms to enter Teaching Fellows’ scores on the BTR, which will then be automatically visualized in the dashboard. Please have ICs only enter scores for the 2 full observations (pre-summer/post-summer). See more information in the BTR User Guide.
All National AmeriCorps affiliates are required to use the forms to enter the TFs’ pre-summer and post-summer BTR scores as the scores are used for AmeriCorps reporting.
The forms are optional for other affiliates, but you should have them in your folders if you requested to use them! The dashboard may be useful to see trends across your Affiliate.
Reach out to Jenny (jsong@breakthroughcollaborative.org) if you have any issues or questions with the form/dashboard.
To respond to feedback from our 2024 pilot group of Breakthrough Teaching Rubric (BTR) users, we wanted to provide some additional IC resources for summer 2025. We are sharing three new resources, you do not have to use all resources, but should use at least the BTR Introduction materials for ICs. The new sessions should flow as follows:
Module 1: BTR Introduction – ICs will be introduced to the BTR and begin synthesizing their understanding of the evaluation process and optional tools by exploring the BTR User Guide and its aligned, adaptable resources. The goal of this session is to make sure everyone understands to tools and resources
Module 2: BTR Norming – ICs will practice, as a community, using the BTR and norm scoring across their site. ICs will have sample evaluation guidance provided, but Site Directors are welcome to adjust language and expectations to align with site-wide systems. The goal of this session is to make sure that evaluations are comparable across your affiliate and that everyone is aligned on expectations.
Module 3: Leveraging Data using the BTR — ICs will practice being intentional about integrating data by using sample BTR data sets, TF lesson plans, and observation scenarios. NOTE: The content that the ICs practice with is referenced from the previous trainings. Site Directors can modify this to align with site-wide systems. This session brings all of the tools together and ensures consistent use of data by ICs at your Affiliate.
Building Capacity
To continuously build capacity for Site Directors, these modules have been recorded and can be found in this folder – BTR Resources. They can also be found on our BIT Google Site. NOTE: If you modify content, you can still utilize the recording, just make sure your ICs know they will use different resources and/or complete different application activities.
