LAST UPDATED SPRING 2025
Overview
These are Breakthrough's Instructional Trainings, commonly referred to as BIT. They provide an overview of Breakthrough and the key practices we want to impart to Teaching Fellows, and they're foundational to what we do. They give us a common language and common understanding, but feel free to personalize them & make them your own!
We have adapted our Breakthrough Instructional Training Workshops for Summer 2025 to align with AmeriCorps expectations and guidelines. Our values and commitment remain unchanged. Our goal is to prepare you for the incredible journey ahead, equipping you with the skills and knowledge to meet the unique needs of your students and the local educational context in which you will be teaching.
AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow Breakthrough Instructional Trainings & Core Concepts - this link includes all AmeriCorps BITs and PBL BITs
This is a sample suggested order of BITs and REDI Modules. We understand each site has specific needs and are free to make those necessary changes. We recommend including daily culture building, TF BIT debrief/reflection, and TF instructional practice time. NOTE: This schedule only goes up to six days because it does not include any site-specific training/adaptations.
GENERAL BREAKTHROUGH INSTRUCTIONAL TRAININGS
These are view-only versions, so be sure to make a copy or download each workshop if you want to personalize it and make it your own. Here is an optional Check for Understanding (CFU) activity for TFs/ICs/Site Staff to complete after viewing all BITs. (NOTE: This document contains tabs; the first tab is the scavenger hunt and the second is the answer key. To edit, please make your own copy.)
