Moving from Stony Brook School to Branchburg Central Middle School in grade 6, exposes students to complex social dynamics, including navigating new peer groups and adjusting to different teacher expectations. This stage is also crucial for developing critical thinking skills and adapting to a broader range of academic subjects. A strong sense of belonging during these formative years can reduce feelings of alienation and boost engagement, encouraging students to confidently tackle new challenges.
Parents of incoming 6th grade students are invited to join the faculty and staff of BCMS for a comprehensive overview of what to expect during this important transitional year. Information will be provided about the school's schedule, expectations, opportunities and activities for students, and the support services offered. Parents will be able to walk through the building and meet key staff members.

On Move Up Day, 5th grade students will travel to BCMS to visit the school, meet their future teachers, and get a feel for the middle school environment. The day includes tours from Student Council members as well as experiencing lunch in the BCMS Cafeteria.
Prior to school starting, students will have their schedules and locker information available so they can come into the building and walk their schedule with their parents. Assisted by administration and Student Council members, students will have a chance to acclimate themselves to the building at their own pace.
