Course Overview / Introduction
GCSE English Language will allow you to demonstrate the use of English in real life, investigate how language is used and draw on your own experience.
What will you study?
The specification is designed to inspire and motivate you, providing appropriate stretch and challenge whilst ensuring that the assessment and texts are, as far as possible, accessible to all.
A range of skills are taught and assessed over the two years including:
summarising
comparison
analysing of structure and language
evaluation
descriptive and persuasive writing to express a viewpoint using a range of linguistic devices and vocabulary.
How many exams are there?
Two equally-balanced papers:
Paper I – Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing (1 hr 45 mins)
Paper II – Non-fiction Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives (1 hr 45 mins)
Each exam assesses a range of reading and writing competencies in an integrated way.
What will you gain from this course?
These skills enable you to read, understand and analyse a wide range of different sources and texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st century as well as communicate clearly with concise written skills.
