PHYSICAL EDUCATION CORE

PHYSICAL EDUCATION PE CORE

Course Overview / Introduction

It is a government requirement of all schools to provide Physical Education lessons to students at Key Stage 4. The focus within the upper school for your Physical Education lessons will be about your ‘well being’. There will be choice, independence and challenge in what you do. You just need to choose your options at the start of the year then bring your Brakenhale PE kit and get involved! The usual rules and sanctions apply about kit, the same as at Key Stage 3.

What will you study?

Core PE allows you to take part in the activities that you have an interest in for the whole year. Core PE will enable you to maximise your time within the subject but also your skill and ability levels, as well as use the time to get a ‘break’ from academic studies in school and look after your well being.

How many exams are there?

No exams!

In terms of assessment, you will be assessed against 2 main themes:

It is vital that we assess and ensure a valid and relevant programme of activities which we report on as this is one of the key aims of the department. This is to ensure that we inspire an active lifestyle within our students and embed a love and passion for lifelong activity in sport and exercise.

What will you gain from this course?

Personal fitness, leadership experience, independent work skills, social collaboration with others, the ability to make good decisions and choices and develop your own personal physical skills.

What does this lead to?

First of all, a better YOU! Taking part in PE will help give you a break from academic studies and allow you to let off some steam and rebalance your body and mind. Physical Education also lends itself to a range of careers in sports and fitness as well as other industries that you may not have considered before. So get your kit, get up and get involved!
