Debating

This was where groups of learners got together once a week to argue to their heart’s content. We argued over a range of topics from the more lighthearted: “Villains are actually better at their job than heroes”, to the serious: “Anyone over 12 should be tried as an adult in court.” Debate was a place where learners had the opportunity to find their voice and take a stand for what they believed in, even when they sometimes stood against their friends or family members. It was a place where learners could grow in confidence, learn to articulate their ideas, while finding the loopholes in other people’s arguments. It was wonderful to see the older, more experienced learners, help and mentor the younger ones throughout the year.
