WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF THE BATAAN PENINSULA STATE UNIVERSITY SUSTAINABILITY OFFICE!
Welcome to this section of the BPSU University Sustainability Office's website. In this page, you will be linked to various teaching tools and strategies to incorporate sustainability and climate change into your courses:
Introduce climate change topics across various subjects to help students understand its impact on different aspects of life.
examples include essay assignments for English, carbon footprint calculations for mathematics, current events in social studies, green marketing in business, renewable energies in engineering, or deforestation issues in geography, and a lot more.
Foster critical thinking by discussing real-world examples, current events, and scientific studies related to climate change.
Encourage debates and group projects that explore climate issues, solutions and strategies for change.
Other than climate change and sustainability, the BPSU ENSO encourages all faculty members to integrate SDG topics into their course syllabi whenever and wherever possible. Read details aboiut the 17 SDGs via this website: https://sdgs.un.org/goals
The 17 SDGs are (1) No Poverty, (2) Zero Hunger, (3) Good Health and Well-Being, (4) Quality Education, (5) Gender Equality, (6) Clean Water and Sanitation, (7) Affordable and Clean Energy, (8) Decent Work and Economic Growth, (9) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, (10) Reducing Inequality, (11) Sustainable Cities and Communities, (12) Responsible Consumption and Production, (13) Climate Action, (14) Life Below Water, (15) Life On Land, (16) Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, (17) Partnerships for the Goals.
Known as the “2030 Agenda,” the 17 SDGs represent an urgent call for developed and developing countries to come together to end poverty and other deprivations while also improving health and education, spurring economic growth, and reducing inequality. Climate change and working to preserve the earth’s oceans and forests are also key sustainable development goals.

Teaching environmental topics can bring out unexpected responses in your students. For example, when you cover the topic of Earth's resources in a physical geology course, you may find previously mild-mannered students become impassioned about the topics, or otherwise attentive and hard-working pupils dig in their heels and resist the information. Doing rock and mineral identification may elicit little emotional response from most students. But when the subject matter seems to confront one's personal lifestyle, political leanings or economic situation, then the topic may be perceived in a very different light.
What are some strategies to teach environmental topics, particularly controversial ones, without coming up against affective barriers to learning? How can you help students learn the science and the policy without getting weighed down by feeling guilty or defiant?

With the threats of pollution, environmental degradation, and climate change now looming large in the wider conversation, it’s become especially important for each one of us to become better caretakers of the planet we all share. To make this possible, parents and educators should do what’s necessary so that the children in their care develop an appreciation of their roles in preserving the earth for future generations.
Stamford American International School does its part by offering a strong focus on sustainability and environmental stewardship as part of the educational experience. Through the school’s Field Studies and Service Learning programs, young learners get a first-hand look at various sustainability and environmental issues, not only gaining a better understanding of these but also becoming a part of the solution. Importantly, Stamford American has also earned recognition for continually promoting key pro-sustainability values as a part of the everyday learning experience.
If you’re looking to champion the understanding of environmental and sustainability issues as a teacher or school administrator, here are some ways to seamlessly incorporate them into the educational journey:
The environment affects us all, no matter where we are. Whether it’s a cold climate or a warm one, you cannot escape Mother Nature’s impact on our lives. The first of these two blogs aims to help generate some ideas of what you can do in the classroom to spark environmental conversations.
The below activities are designed to encourage discussion among young adult students. They simultaneously reinforce useful vocabulary in relation to both the environment and daily life. These activities are designed to be textbook agnostic.

If you’ve caught even one news story about the environment lately, you know just how important environmental activities for students can be. The saying “children are our future” is used so often that it can begin to sound cliched, but let’s face it: Truer words are rarely spoken.
The students learning about nature, climate change, and sustainability in your classroom today will be the stewards of the environment in 10 or 20 years. The future of our planet will soon be in their hands. As a teacher, you’re making an important impact on our future too.
Sustainability — and helping teachers — are jointly entwined in our core mission, and we are here to lend a hand. The teachers who create all the printable worksheets, digital activities, and other teaching resources on the Teach Starter website hail from all around the US, and they’ve put together some of the best environmental activities for students plus ways to help the environment right in your classroom.
Whether you’re celebrating Earth Day, writing sustainability lessons for your science class, or just looking for ways to stress the importance of being kind to Mother Earth in the classroom, read on for some must-save ideas to add to your teacher toolkit!
