Life does not have to stop behind the prison gates
All the guilt feelings, doubts, and questions are our constant visitors, especially for our PDLs. But a message of hope is that it’s never too late to dream of something bigger for ourselves and to reach our maximum potential.
A cruel experiment was conducted wherein dogs were continuously electrocuted. After quite some time of being subjected to electric voltage, only the sounds of electrocution were played to the dogs. The results of the experiment varied. While some dogs jolted and jumped out of the fence, some decided to stay inside. The question is, “Will you stay inside, or will you go out?”
“Never lose FAITH.”
In light of the recent suicidal attempts of two (2) PDLs from Talavera Municipal Jail, the team had prepared a webinar for both male and female dormitories of Talavera Municipal Jail last December 5, 2020. Also present in the said activity is the Jail Warden of TMJ, Mr. Cliff Richard Torres who has been very supportive and had always been providing words of encouragement to PDLs especially given their situation in the jail facilities which had only been worsened due to the lack of visits from their loved ones and all the constraints and problems that had been bothering them since the lockdown. .
As a final requirement on MAN 203 – Seminar in Nursing under our professor, Dr. Ruby Santos-Matibag, we have conducted a webinar regarding Post-disaster Infectious Diseases entitled, “Beware, Be Aware: Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases after Natural Disasters” last 12th of December 2020. The topic was discussed by the two speakers, Dr. Romeo Tuazon Jr. and Sir Robert Carreon. The intended audience was the nurses from any health care settings. It is to provide information regarding the infectious diseases that could be acquired caused by natural disasters.
December 21 and 22 marked the year-end implementation of the Health Beyond Bar Extension project entitled, “Masayang Panahon sa Panahon ng Pandemya – A Day with Partners”. It was a very special way to cap off this year’s program. The 2-day activity was filled with gifts, games, and creativity as PDLs celebrate with us during this Christmas Season. Participants from Bataan District Jail (Male and Female Dormitory), Balanga City Jail, Dinalupihan Municipal Jail, Mariveles Municipal Jail, Guagua District Jail, Olongapo District Jail – Female Dormitory, and Talavera Municipal Jail participated in the different games and competition. 400 Geriatric, abandoned and PWDs PDLs were the beneficiaries for this activity.
National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCO Week) is part of the executive order of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) being held every third week of October of the year. It is an initiative that is simultaneously celebrated in all jails nationwide. The significance of this activity is to shed awareness to the community outside about the existing community inside the jail facilities.
For the last 5 years of the implementation of the project, the team had been conducting a 3-day activity to celebrate the NACOCO Week in accordance with the dates set by BJMP. For this year, the team had decided on the theme; “Resiliency Amidst the Pandemic; Creating Healthy Jail Facilities”. It was very timely since, for the last eight months, the BJMP jails had been in lockdown.
