On each day, listen to and read a text. This week you will read two books on two different days.
Read the questions below each Read Aloud, and then talk with a family member and draw and write your ideas on a piece of paper or in a notebook.
This memoir is centered around a store in Guatemala. As you listen and read, think about this setting.
What can you gather from the text about this one place in Guatemala?
The main character is part of a family that immigrated from China to Guatemala.
Based on information from the text, what is it like for Mama, Papa, and don Chema to have grown up in China and now live in Guatemala? What is it like for Amelia to be a member of an immigrant family?
What can we learn about how Hung Liu thinks of her identity or her grandmother’s identity from these images?
How was life in a new place challenging for Ramón and Pedro?
What can we learn about the Dominican Republic through Pedro’s story?

Look around your house and use your imagination. Food containers, coins, paper from mail you will trash, corks, tops, buttons are great resources. Do you have dice and cards?
Since Lesson 2 depends on the weather, you can change the order in which you do these lessons.
Continue making and playing different kinds of instruments! You might use: plastic containers, rubber bands, string, metal bowls or pans, wooden spoons or sticks, straws, metal spoons... What else can you use? What different sounds can you make?
Play along to a song that you love!
Ask your family members to play with you to make a band!
