Current Assignments

Week 3 (March 30-April 3)

Reading

Remember to read for at least 30 minutes a day (this can be on the computer or with a book) and complete 1 reading response per week. Check the back of your reading log for response questions and choose one to respond to. Your reading response should be at least 3 sentences long. Make sure you check for capital letters, punctuation, and nice neat handwriting!

Tip of the Week: Try to record yourself reading on RAZ Kids once a week! Your teacher will award you 100 bonus starts for every recording!

Writing

Set a goal to complete 2-3 writing prompts each week. For some extra writing time, try starting a journal about your time at home. Write and draw for 15 minutes a day about what you did, what you saw, what you are feeling, what you are thinking, and what you are wondering.

Tip of the Week: Have a family member take a picture of one of your journal entries to send to your teacher. We would love to post some student examples for next week!

Math

Remember to spend 30 minutes a day practicing your facts on Reflex Math and working on practice pages in your math workbook for units 1, 3, 4, or 5.

Tip of the Week: Did you know that you can check how many facts you have mastered on Reflex Math? Set a goal of mastering 2-3 new facts each week… you teachers will be checking your progress!

Here are a couple examples from books your teachers are reading:

What is your opinion of this book? Would you recommend it to others?

In my opinion, the book Big Al by Andrew Clements is a book anyone would enjoy. One reason I loved this book is because it had great illustrations. One of my favorite illustrations was when Big Al was covered in sand and he let out a big sneeze and all the colorful fish swam away. Another reason I loved this book was because Al was a funny fish. At one point in the story, he puffed himself up real big so the other fish would laugh at him. It didn’t work, but it made me laugh! I think anyone that really likes fish would enjoy this story. You should give it a try!

What was your favorite part of this book? Why?

My favorite part of Giraffes Can’t Dance is when Gerald says, “I am dancing! Yes, I’m dancing! I AM DANCING!” I like this part because Gerald was feeling very sad and lonely when the other animals made fun of him, but now he realizes that he is actually an amazing dancer! Also, I like that it teaches us not to worry about what others think and to remember to love yourself. Finally, the illustration on this page is really cool because it shows a close up on Gerald’s smiling face with the other animals watching in the background. That’s why I love this part of Giraffes Can’t Dance!
