Literacy: Read to your child.
While reading:
• point out the title of the story
• point to pictures in the book and name the pictures
• encourage your child to point to the pictures
• encourage your child to name the pictures
• ask questions to your child about what they see
• what sounds do objects/animals/items make that are seen in the book
• point to and name letters you see in the book
• have your child point to letters and/or name the letters
• Tell your children the sounds a letter makes and encourage them to repeat 3. If possible, give your children crayons/markers and have them color on paper or color in a
coloring book. Draw horizontal and vertical lines and encourage your child to copy what you draw.
Math: Working on number identification and counting. Create a game where they clap a certain number of times (1-5) or they clap in imitation or same time as you for a certain quantity. Identifying numbers in the house, in a book, on television, and anywhere they see numbers. A fun way to count could be counting their favorite toys. As you count each toy use your finger as a guide and encourage your child to use their finger to count the toys too. After you count, have your child choose which toy they would like to play with. When they are choosing the toy, encourage them to point to the toy using an isolated finger point and name the item for them and encourage them to name the item as well.

TAKE HOME PACKET
K1 Shabazz
Students were sent home packets, so they can continue practicing important skills that we have been teaching them in school. The packet includes: letters, numbers and shapes.
You will find a pages of the alphabet. Please work with your children to have them identify the letters and write the letters.
Students will, also, be practicing numbers. You will find sheets that will have students cut, match and paste numbers.
We have been working on shapes in the class. Students will color and code shapes.
Finally, students will be using scissors to cut out shapes. This will help them with both their fine motor and gross motor skills.
I always encourage you to read to your students every day.
Below, you will find additional resources that the district has provided.
