Internet Access Resources & Support

Kilmer K8 Families,

We recognize not every household may have technology or internet access. The Boston Public Schools are working quickly to provide additional resources to families. If your child is unable to access web-based assignments please call or text Ms. Williams at 617-388-6810. The Kilmer and BPS are distributing Chromebooks to family that do not already have technology access at home. (Please see Chromebook distribution information and internet access below).

Please know that we are also providing paper-based assignment options that were sent home Friday with more to come on Monday. Below are resources for low-cost or free internet that can help through these next 6 weeks.

Thank you,

Ms. Williams

BPS Chromebook Distribution (if you did not get a chromebook already at school):

Chromebooks are being provided to:

  • Students who only have access to a mobile phone for learning at home.

  • Students who share a computer at home and often do not have access to a computer for homework.

  • Students who do not have a computer that is in working condition for online learning.

If you need a Chromebook for your student, please fill out this form: bostonpublicschools.org/laptop.

  • After filling out the form, you will receive an email and text message to schedule an appointment.

  • Email invitations will be sent out each day as we go through grade levels, starting with high school grade levels first.

  • Distribution of Chromebooks will take place over several days. We want to make sure the process keeps everyone safe and does not create large crowds. Since we have 20,000 devices to distribute, it may take a few days to schedule an appointment.

  • If you do not receive an email for an appointment tomorrow, you will receive an email in the coming days for an appointment.

Low cost internet options:

Home Internet - We have asked the Internet companies to step up to the plate and they are delivering! Here's what we have so far;

Comcast - All BPS families who are in need of home Internet can get two months of FREE Comcast high speed Internet. No cost to the family. Details here

Cell Phones - All major carriers will have unlimited high speed data for the next two months as part of the "Keep America Connected" pledge.

Even more important, most cell phone and home internet companies have pledged NOT to disconnect service for unpaid bills for the next two months!

Adults can play a big role in students’ learning. Explore learning sites with children, ask them questions about what they are learning, and engage in conversations about what they are watching on TV. Studies show that children learn more when they are able to talk about what they are learning.
