The Wedge is a simple machine consisting of a length that is wider at one end and comes to a point at the other through straight lines. Its purpose is to provide a force opposite to the Effort. It is considered a back-to-back Inclined Plane.
Work (Effort-Wedge Down) = Work (Load-Wedge Across)
Force (Effort-Wedge Down) x Distance (Effort-Wedge Down) =
Force (Load-Wedge Across) x Distance (Load-Wedge Across)
(Small Force on the Wedge) x (Large Distance Wedge travels down) =
(Large Force on side of Wedge) x (Small Distance Wedge travels)
