Obtain a written release from your district of residence. This release, if approved, will be mailed to the Bonita Unified School District for processing. You may need to submit a copy when you receive it from the district of release.
Request student records for attendance, discipline, and grades/credits going back at least two semesters. You will be asked to provide those records once release paperwork has been received.
The transfer permit request will be reviewed once all documentation is received
NOTE: If the student for whom you are requesting a permit has an active IEP, a copy of a current, signed IEP must also be submitted in order for the transfer permit request to be considered.
If the student has been approved for enrollment using an inter-district transfer permit, return to this page and follow this link to begin the new student enrollment process: THE STUDENT HAS BEEN APPROVED USING A TRANSFER PERMIT AND IS READY TO BEGIN THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS
(For grade 3, 4 and 5 permits - see important information below)
All BUSD elementary schools are expecting grade 3, 4 and 5 classes to reach capacity levels. In order to guarantee placement for resident students, decisions on permit applications (inter-district and Allen Bill) for grade 3, 4 and 5 students may not be reached until August 15, 2025, upon which families will be notified. Therefore, make certain your student(s) is enrolled in your district of residence in the case Bonita Unified is unable to accommodate your request for permit as space for permits will be very limited.
Criteria to be eligible to attend a school other than the neighborhood school can be found here: TRANSFER PERMIT CRITERIA
It is important to note that all transfer permits will be reviewed by the end of the year to determine if the above criteria has been reached. In extreme cases where permit criteria is not being reached, a review will be conducted by the end of the trimester or semester. Each school site will inform Student Services of students who do not meet criteria and whose permit they elect to revoke. Students whose permits are revoked are unable to apply for a new permit until one full academic year following the revocation as per Bonita Unified School District's AR 5117.
