Introduction to Engineering

Introduction to Engineering Design is the first course in the Product Innovation and Design pathway. This course will introduce you to a variety of manufacturing techniques including 3D printing, technical drawing, 3D solid modeling (CAD,) and the engineering design process.


Design Engineering 2

Grades: 9-12

Graduation Requirement: Vocational Education or elective

A-G: No

Engineering Design 2 is the second course in this pathway.  In this class, students will learn how to program, set up, and run CNC mills, plasma cutters, and lathes. The engineering design process will be emphasized throughout the projects in this course. Advanced CAD techniques will also be introduced.


Design Engineering 3

Grades: 9-12

A-G: No

In this course, students will explore generative design. Generative design is among the very newest design and manufacturing techniques. It allows designers to use computer power to explore hundreds of design options that would take weeks using traditional methods. During this course, students will use generative design techniques to create a lightweight bicycle or motorcycle frame. Students will also get more in-depth with the principles of design thinking as they tackle the issue of single-use plastic.

Design Engineering 4

Grades: 9-12

Graduation Requirement: Vocational Education or elective

This is a senior-level class that will bring together all of the skills students developed in the previous courses. In this capstone class students will develop an original product from concept to prototype. Each student will choose a real-world problem facing our community and spend a semester iterating the design process to develop a suitable solution. These products could be improvements on existing products or entirely new creations.  Additionally, students will have the opportunity to pursue certifications from Autodesk and Haas.

Intro. To Computer Science Principles Course

Grades: 9-12

AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the breadth of the field of computer science. In this course, students will learn to design and evaluate solutions and apply computer science to solve problems through the development of algorithms and programs. They will incorporate abstraction into programs and use data to discover new knowledge. Students will also explain how computing innovations and computing systems, including the Internet, work, explore their potential impacts, and contribute to a computing culture that is collaborative and ethical. It is important to note that the AP Computer Science Principles course does not have a designated programming language. Teachers have the flexibility to choose a programming language(s) that is most appropriate for their students to use in the classroom.



Industrial Arts Vocational Education


Auto Classes

Grades: 9-12

This class is designed to give students the ability to understand the fundamentals of automotive mechanical repair and technological advances, and to learn how to properly evaluate, diagnose and repair vehicles. Our goal is to strive to meet the Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) standards. We will work towards a skilled and confident employable entry level repair technician for placement in the automotive repair industry.


The course begins with a thorough overview and demonstration of safety procedures on tools, equipment, and safety precautions when working on vehicles. After passing the course safety test students will then learn to properly identify common tools and diagnostic equipment. The class will embark on an automotive educational experience covering most areas and aspects of automotive repair.Students will learn how to properly diagnose problems, repair automobiles, and will also use the correct procedures when working in a fully operational automotive repair shop on customers vehicles, writing repair orders following the Bureau of Automotive Repair (B.A.R) regulations and guidelines. We will also be discussing and exploring the latest in technology, Hybrid Engines, electrical systems discussing different types of fuels and the computer controlled vehicles of tomorrow that we are starting to see today.


Metals Classes

Grades: 9-12

This class is designed to give students the ability to understand the fundamentals of metal, welding, fabrication and technological advances. We will work towards a skilled and confident employable entry level welder/fabricator for placement in the automotive repair industry.

The course begins with a thorough overview and demonstration of safety procedures on tools, equipment, and safety precautions when welding. After passing the course safety test students will then learn to properly identify common tools and diagnostic equipment. The class will embark on a welder/fabricator educational experience covering most areas and aspects of welding/fabricating. Students will learn how to identify types of metals and various welding methods along with fabrication principles. 


Woods

Grades: 9-12

Graduation Requirement: Vocational Education or Elective

A-G: No

This course introduces students to career opportunities within the sector and provides an overview of the planning, design, layout, and technical drawing interpretation for practical use in woodworking, cabinetmaking, and millwork. It may also cover different cabinet and furniture styles used, various wood products and materials, and proper tool selection. Students will be introduced to the different construction processes in the cabinetmaking, furnituremaking, and millworking industries. Students will study basic woodworking skills (safety in the workplace, how to operate and use all machinery and tools) in order to build and complete woodworking projects


Fire & Advanced Fire

Grades: 11-12

Graduation Requirement: Vocational Education or Elective

A-G: No

This Course will acquire core knowledge and skills in preparation for a satisfying career in the fire service. They will develop the operational concepts and manipulative skills needed when responding to events, such as: structure fires, natural disasters, Student’s hazardous material incidents, search and rescue, terrorism, and by providing medical aid to the sick and injured. During this training, there will be an emphasis on personal safety, the safety of fellow workers and the general public. Successful students will emerge from this course with overall knowledge of Fire Fighting and steps needed to proceed with a career.  Certificates Earned * American Red Cross CPR and First Aid * NWCG Basic Wildland Firefighter * I-100 (ICS-100)

CTE Animal Health

Grades: 11-12

Graduation: Elective or Vocational Education

A-G: No

Prerequisite: High school juniors and seniors must request this course through their Counseling Office during their school's course selection period (January - February).

Students must have taken and passed biology to apply for this course.

Students must provide their own transportation to class and to the community classroom sites.


ROP Animal Health is designed to give students highly individualized instruction in various areas of the animal health industry. The course combines classroom instruction with practical on-the-job training. Job specific training is utilized through the operation of externships targeted to match students with occupational competencies. Students may attend a third semester of ROP Animal Health to earn the California State Veterinary Assistant Certification.


CTE Automotive Engine

Grades: 11-12

Graduation: Elective or Vocational Education

High school students must be 16 or older to enroll in this course at no charge.  Once students graduate from high school, students will be required to pay tuition, lab fee and kit fee (one time charge) per semester to complete the course.

Students must provide their own transportation to class.


This class is designed to provide students with necessary skills, knowledge and abilities for entry-level employment in the automotive service industry. Graduates of this program will have sufficient background to repair and make adjustments to various systems of the modern automobile, using up-to-date equipment and tools.


Cosmetology

Grades: 11-12

Graduation: Elective or Vocational Education

Prerequisite:High school students must be 16 or older to enroll in this course at no charge.  Once students graduate from high school, students will be required to pay tuition, lab fee and kit fee (one time charge) per semester to complete the course.


Training in theoretical, practical and all phases of hair, skin and nail care, with particular emphasis on chemistry, product knowledge and life science. Students must complete 1000 clock hours of applied effort set forth by the State Board of Cosmetology, in addition to complying with the educational standards of the Central Sierra ROP. Students will be taught the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to pass the California Cosmetology Examinations. In addition, students will become familiar with business practices and procedures used in most salons. In the exciting career of Cosmetology, you can become a hairstylist, platform artist, salon owner, or one of many opportunities open to licensed Cosmetologists.


Culinary Arts

The ROP Culinary Arts Course is a competency-based course that prepares students for entry-level positions in the restaurant/food service industry. Students will learn about food safety, food service operations, nutrition, food preparation and presentation. Integrated throughout the course are career preparations standards, such as basic academic skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, safety and other employment skills. Students will gain professional experience by catering local events.


Dental Careers

Grades: 11-12

This class is designed to provide the student with entry-level dental assisting skills, including everything from dental office procedures and practices to dental patient care. Community Classroom training site placements are available in local dental offices during the second semester. These placements offer the opportunity to participate in the care of patients in a dental environment, while networking and obtaining information for future education and employment. The student is encouraged to develop advanced knowledge of the dental profession after completion of this course, while working as a dental assistant or by attending one of the colleges offering dental related instruction.


Diesel Engine

Grades: 11-12

The ROP Diesel Engine course is designed to mix classroom instruction with hands-on training in the operation and repair of modern diesel engines. Students will learn how to interpret technical manuals and electronic diagnostic reports.

Health Careers

The ROP Health Careers course offers rigorous and relevant instruction in a wide variety of patient health care. Students explore diverse fields of medical and healthcare careers as related to their interest, aptitudes and abilities. After completion of competencies and hospital orientation, the students will complete the school year by training in a medical facility. Externship opportunities offer cross-training in a wide variety of areas of the hospital, medical facilities, and long-term health care facilities.


Law Enforcement

Students in this program learn about many facets of the Criminal Justice field including instruction in firearms, CPR, elementary criminal law, courts, correctional systems, un-armed defense, due process provided by the U.S. Constitution, rights of citizens and court procedures. You will examine the entire scope of careers in law enforcement for Federal, State and local careers.


Metal Fabrication

This course is designed to provide today’s students the flexibility to enter many areas of the welding industry.
