AP and Honors Courses
HONORS & ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES
Golden Sierra High School offers Honors and Advanced Placement courses in the English, Social Science, Math, and Science departments. Some of these courses have a summer reading requirement, so parents and students are strongly encouraged to contact the subject area Department Chair for more information.
Honors
Honors Courses earn a higher grade point average (5.0 scale instead of 4.0) and challenge students by moving at a faster pace; they often have prerequisites. Unlike the Advanced Placement classes, the curriculum is not geared towards taking a test at the end of the course of study which, if the score is high enough, would give the student college credit. Our Honors course offerings are:
English 2 Honors
Precalculus
Advanced Placement (AP)
AP courses have a set curriculum and are geared towards taking tests administered in late spring that might offer students college credit. Like the Honors courses, they are also approved for a higher grade point average. Our Advanced Placement course offerings are:
AP English Language and Composition
AP English Literature and Composition
AP Calculus AB and BC
AP US History
AP Biology
AP Physics
AP Environmental Science
AP Spanish Language Composition
