ITEEA's REACH Challenge is an impactful Adaptive & Assistive design thinking project for students enrolled in STEAM programs at the middle school, high school, and college level. Students are asked to use their STEAM skills to REACH an individual in their community whom has a challenge to overcome. This challenge encourages students to be in touch with their community, help others overcome challenges, and make real differences in the lives of those surrounding.
This year's team of research students from JFK created "The Peripheral Partner" to assist a community member (and the grandmother of one of the teammates) with peripheral and rear-view sight. The team designed The Peripheral Partner to clip onto a walker to provide the community member with a better sense of her surroundings by allowing her to see what is behind her through use of a small mirror.
