Digital World is a hands-on, exploratory course designed to help students build essential digital literacy and technology skills. This curriculum introduces students to a range of tools and platforms that encourage creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and responsible technology use. Students will begin by learning how to effectively use cloud-based tools for communication, organization, and classroom collaboration. They will gain experience managing digital files, customizing email settings, and navigating virtual learning environments.
As they progress, students will explore basic programming concepts through interactive coding platforms, building projects like mazes and simple games that reinforce logical thinking and design. They will also dive into digital art by creating custom avatars and animations using a sprite editor, enhancing their understanding of visual storytelling and motion.
The curriculum introduces text-based programming with Python, where students will write simple code, draw with turtle graphics, and even create pixel art using code-based methods. Alongside coding, they will explore how computers function by examining hardware, software, and the systems that process digital information.
Students will take a historical look at how the internet was developed and evolved, while also learning effective online research skills. Equally important, the course emphasizes digital citizenship, helping students understand internet safety, appropriate online behavior, and how to handle issues like cyberbullying.
Toward the end of the course, students will compile and showcase their work in a personal digital portfolio, highlighting their creativity and progress. They’ll also be introduced to 3D design through a user-friendly modeling platform, where they will create and manipulate shapes to develop spatial awareness and design thinking. By the conclusion of the course, students will have a strong foundation in modern digital tools, programming, design, and ethical technology use, preparing them to succeed in a tech-driven world.
