In TechEd 8 - Arduino + Engineering, students embark on a dynamic exploration of Computer Science and Engineering Principles. This year-long course, held every other day, is designed to introduce middle schoolers to a variety of technology topics including computer programming, architecture, robotics, and design. Through hands-on projects and creative challenges, students cultivate innovation and creative thinking, essential skills for success in today's world.
The curriculum unfolds in five engaging units. They begin with Technology Basics, covering measurement, scale, and drafting, then progress to 3D Programming + Model Building, where students use software like TINKERCAD and FUSION 360 to design and print custom objects. The course delves into Engineering + Robotics, exploring flight and transportation concepts, and includes hands-on experience with VEX IQ Robotics kits and VEXcode programming. The Coding and Arduino Programming unit teaches foundational programming concepts using the KidOYO Arduino Level 1 curriculum, culminating in the creation of a website portfolio. Lastly, the Architecture and Bridge Building unit challenges students to apply their learning to design, construct, and test models in wood, emphasizing safety and craftsmanship.
