Course Content
Through practical and theoretical study, the Cambridge IGCSE Drama syllabus encourages students to understand and enjoy drama by:
Studying and performing extracts from plays
Devising and writing their own pieces of drama from a given stimulus
Analysing both published plays and their own devised work

Component 1 : 40%
Written examination
Sections A and B on this paper relate to pre-release material which is sent to Centres in advance of the examination.
Section C on this paper relates to the devised piece the student has already completed in Component 2.
Section A (30 marks) Candidates answer up to 8 short and extended answer questions on the first extract.
Section B (25 marks) Candidates answer two extended response questions on the second extract.
Section C (25 marks) Candidates answer two extended response questions based on their devised piece completed in Component 2.

Coursework
Candidates submit three pieces of practical work.
One individual piece (maximum 3 minutes)
Two group pieces (3 - 5 minutes per student; maximum 20 minutes each group piece)

Work collaboratively to generate, develop and communicate ideas

Contribute as an individual to a theatrical performance and develop leadership skills

Drama is not just an IGCSE for those who want to go into the large and lucrative entertainment industry; it is an IGCSE for everyone as businesses look for employable people who possess transferable skills that are actively promoted by the teaching and learning activities within Drama. All universities and schools accept Drama as a good IGCSE to study.
