Do you want to make a difference in our global community?

Or maybe, you just want something to do after school Mondays?

If you fit this description, you should check out the Water For Sudan club, here at HMS.

In early 2021, the 7th graders read the book A Long Walk To Water by Salva Dut. The book took place in South Sudan in the midst of the war. It was about two separate characters, one walking to water, and the other attempting to escape his own country. The story brings the characters together through the organization : Water for Sudan. Reading this story influenced the 7th graders to make a difference, so we joined the water for Sudan project and began raising money by fundraisers. The club had a hat day every Friday, where students could bring a dollar and wear a hat. They sold stickers and, raised over 1,200 dollars. The money was the result of many many hours of work, and it was all given to the Water For South Sudan fund.

The funds were a result of the hard work of our club members, and that's where all HMS students can start getting involved.

It's really easy to get involved in Water For Sudan. All you need to do is email Mrs. Holtz or talk to her. If you don't necessarily want to get involved in the club, you can donate on hat days or buy a super duper rad sticker designed by an eighth grader, Elliot Hendrickson. Mrs. Holtz is very open to taking fundraising ideas, so if you have any, do not be afraid to reach out. Participating in all the events supporting Water For Sudan helps every time you do it.

In conclusion, if you want to help make the world a better place, consider joining the Water For Sudan club.
